Fist of all, Lady Diana chose her ring herself, from a tray brought to the palace by Garrards jewelers who used to be the official royal jewelers.
she said she chose it because it was “the biggest”
secondly, the sapphire was between 5 and 9 carats. NOT 18. the ring it’s self was ’18 kt gold’ . that is where everyone seems to be confused and continuously say the sapphire is 18cts, when in fact it was the gold that was 18kts.
if you must, then measure it…that stone with refernance to say, lady diana’s eye…just the coloured part of her eyes, her iris will of course measure 12mm in diameter, and in the same photos where they show her ring, you’ll notice the sapphire is no more then the size of her iris. go ahead measure it! this sapphire being only 12mm in length and even less in width, would therefore have to be at least 20 or more deep for it to be 18cts! of course it is not, it would have never fit in the ring! it’s about 5 to 9 carats at MOST!
The ring is so beautiful and so royal that it deserves every single word that has been written about it.
